Mystery blogger award

Lindesnes lighthouse (Norway's southernmost point)

Well, I've never been nominated for anything, so this actually feels good, there's someone out there that thinks my blog is worth reading! πŸ˜‚

This is nothing official, it's a friendly chain of recognition between bloggers, a cozy thing. Here's what the creator Okoto Enigma says about it:

"Mystery Blogger Award is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious post. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging, and they do it with so much love and passion."

Me and Otto (I also have JJ 😊)

Here are "The Rules" to the "Mystery Blogger Award":

  • Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • Tell your readers three things about yourself
  • Answer the questions from the person who nominated you
  • Nominate 10 - 20 bloggers you feel deserve the award
  • Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice, with one weird or funny one
  • Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog

Now that we're done with the introductions, here we go:

The awesome Ellen Hatteland

I was nominated for this by the awesome Ellen Hatteland, she's been a source of inspiration and awe for me ever since I started sewing. I called her my sewing role model before and I still totally mean it. I first "met" Ellen on burdastyle.com 3-4 years ago when I started sewing and still follow her and her amazing (and many!) makes today 😍 (For the Norwegian sewing population: yep, that's the same Ellen from symesterskapet 😎).

What would be interesting and new to tell you about myself? hmmm
  • I worked offshore for 6 years in the oil & gas industry as an engineer on a seismic vessel (oil and gas exploration boat), in some cases the only girl of a crew of about 55 people and often looked like this (This is a room on the boat we called the Instrument room where all the computers, servers and technical people lived πŸ˜‚):
Some 10 years ago on the Western Spirit

  • I'm obsessed with languages, speak four, understand a good deal of 2 more but speak them badly and dream of learning all the languages in the world! 😡
  • I love the sea! We bought our house mainly because I was obsessed with the sea view from it (a couple of kilometers away and it's just the Oslo fjord but still!)

The questions I was asked by Ellen are:

  • What do you do to cheer up your partner? hehehe...I mean you have to think in that direction with this question, don't you? πŸ˜„, but seriously? listen and cuddle, or cook one of the things he really likes.
  • If I ask you to sing spontaneous, what song would that be? I got no roots coz my home was never on the ground (No roots by Alice Merton)...I listen to the radio all the time, so it would be whichever song is stuck in my head at the time. Although I dance more than I sing 😁
  • Your favorite topping on the ice-cream.. Caramel sauce! Totally! Even better if it's salted, yum!
  • What makes you feel uncomfortable.. Stubborn arguments that lead nowhere, hate them!
  • What kind of competition would you like to participate? 20 years ago, I'd have said swimming, today? probably sewing πŸ˜„
Yup! I've been to Taj Mahal 😎

Now it's time to list some names that I love to read, in no particular order (some don't blog that often but I love to read when they do, and some have already been nominated before by other people):

  1. Why did you start sewing?
  2. What's your favorite me-made garment?
  3. What's you favorite city/town/village/place in the world of those you actually visited?
  4. Have you ever won a challenge/giveaway and what did you win?
  5. How would you react if someone you've never seen before walks up to you in the street, happily calls your name and gives you a hug?

It's a New Year!

2017 makes (most of them anyway)

It's been a year since I started regularly (read more often than twice a year) blogging again. The reason? I decided to start writing about my makes...Sewing, crochet and other fun stuff and given I do these things all the time now, I do get something to write about.

During 2017 ...

Sewists of the world! I need your help!

I've been thinking this over for a while and now I have decided! I'm opening an online fabric store!

I'm starting with different kinds of woven and knit fabrics made of Egyptian cotton, but planning already to have other natural fibers in the future as well as sewing supplies (buttons, threads, zips, maybe even sewing patterns etc...)

The shop will be based in Norway since I live here, but will ship worldwide. And one of my main goals is to keep the shipping costs down.

I've been out there buying from online stores myself and have taken a lot of pluses and minuses into consideration while thinking this one out so hopefully you'll all like it. But there's only one way to find out: You have to tell me yourself!

So I'd like to invite all of you that sew to take 10 minutes of your time and answer a little survey I created. You can take it in English or Norwegian. And the best part?

πŸ‘‰There's fabric to winπŸ‘ˆ

3 winners will be drawn and each will get 2m of cotton fabric! But if the participation exceeds expectation, I'll increase the number of winners as well.

And if you want to double your chances to win, head over to my Instagram account and repost my cry for help there (more details in the IG post).

Thank you all in advance and good luck!

Some fast days lately

It's amazing how much faster it goes when you're alone at home and have to make your own food! πŸ˜† Or when you get involved in something or other that requires a little bit every day...

My husband has been travelling for work most of last week and most of this week, and although the daily routine hasn't changed, I do spend part of my evening cooking and suddenly evenings are a lot shorter...

Some sun can't hurt

Our 7th floor balcony

I'm on vacation!!! Finally 😁! I've been waiting for so long! And now I finally took a week off and flew to Egypt. I'm spending the whole week in Cairo with my family including the new little addition to it, my nephew Zein who is only 1 month old πŸ‘Ά

It's a new year

Taal lake, on the way to the volcano

And a bit over a year since my last post.
I'm not sure why this time of year gets me blogging again, maybe it's the lingering holiday mood, maybe the slightly more relaxed, less busy days. I'm a bit disappointed with myself for not writing
The White beach, Boracay
more, I don't exactly lack things to write about or want to write, but my problem is that "inspiration" hits at times and places when I don't have the means or the time to write. I should start carrying a little notebook...Saying that, I'm not going to quit my day job yet πŸ˜‚

December mood...or festive feelings

Oskar's present
December comes every year and gives the same feeling. A feeling of goodness, calm happiness (as opposed to excited wo-hoo! type)...In a way a feeling of bliss.
I've been sailing through December in a good mood until now, and given it's only one week til I fly to Cairo to celebrate New Year with my family, it's little that can go wrong here.

A cat...

Is a creature that has no feelings for you. It gets attached to the house not the people. It doesn't care whether you're gone for a long time or there all the time. It can't be trained to do tricks, that's a dog thing. It's a mean creature that can hurt you for no reasons. It smells bad and makes the house smell bad. And many other myths that poeple who never had cats keep telling you...And even through you've watched a thousand youtube videos with cats doing different "good" things, you still believe the above.

Animalia

I was just sitting at some point and thinking that I've taken quite a few photos of animals during my travels.
This is a post to showcase them.

They're not great. It's difficult to make great ones with creatures that don't get the point of posing, but some of those my lens captured I find quite special.

Of course, there's your usual farm animals...

Office Job

That I've had since October. And therefore, not much traveling is happening to write about anymore.

So what should I write about? That's the question that I've been asking myself since my last travel in September, and still asking myself till now... Well, I'm not stopping to write about places I've been, it's just that it became far less frequent, and with my "frequency" with writing, you can imagine how often (or rather not) this blog will be populated.

I have to admit, I did think about what to do with my blog to make it highly readable and maybe make some money out of it, but in that case my options are: Clothes, celebrities, fashion, cooking or sex, which rules out the money making option for me, being not interested to write about any of the above.

So I decided to go random, write about whatever, whenever I feel like it. Why not? I do write for myself in the first place, other readers just come as a bonus.

And therefore...
Randomness here I come!

Grown up? me?

Finally New year 2007/2008 and finally i got the 5 week vacation i was waiting for, it always feels so good with one of these.

Not much happening, relaxation, meeting all the friends...generally nice. Add to that the nice celebration of New year at home with the family :)

But there was one special thing about those particular 5 weeks.
I got engaged! Of course to Erik, what kind of question is that?

Land at last (or) Back to Abu Dhabi

At last we finished our job and headed to Abu Dhabi port, 3 days of some work and some fun, still thigs must be properly arranged on board, shipments to take care of, etc...
But it's always possible to go out at night, have fun, go shopping or just walk around, just a change of atmosphere, walk the streets again!
In short, 3 different days, and a change definitely can do you good.

Friends

You may have some strange relationships but if you get down to it, there's really nothing strange about it. I know a lot of people, very few are real friends, and i'm very satisfied with that, and very comfortable with it.

Who's that girl?!

To start, let me tell you a little about myself.
