A taste of Tunisia: The island of Djerba

To be honest, there isn't much informative I can tell you about Djerba apart from telling you that the Friday market in Midoun is not worth the effort, especially if you've already been through the markets of Tunis, in which case this will be a total disappointment.

A taste of Tunisia: Tunis city

El Zaytouna mosque

Our third day in Tunis we dedicated to the city itself.
I mentioned that we were living in the old town with its maze of tiny alleys, this also contains the markets of Tunis (or for those who feel souks is a special word, then souks...which translates simply to markets in Arabic).

A taste of Tunisia: Carthage

The view from Birsa hill

The second day we headed to historical Carthage. This is a city very rich in history and culture, there's debate as to when it was established, but it's around 1000 B.C by the Phoenicians. It was a thriving commercial city and the remains found there show how open to the world around them they were, how many different cultures passed through it and blended together, how their own arts been influenced by so many others they came in contact with. But the romans had different ideas some 750 years after, burnt it to the ground, killed everybody and built their own city on the rubble...

A taste of Tunisia: Sidi Bou Said

The most famous thing about Tunisia for me has always been those pretty white houses with blue trim...Blue doors, blue windows and sometimes some extra decoration, overlooking the sea.

A taste of Tunisia: A vacation begins

I just came back from a week's vacation in Tunisia that I really loved. It's a country I always wanted to visit and experience, and some time ago I was talking about it with my little sister and we laughed about meeting there one day (given I'm in Norway and she's in Egypt that is...).

It's Dubai again

I say again because i've been here before, this was actually the first destination my work sent me to, and it was to get my induction training. The spirit of Dubai has not changed since, still feels artificial, has an ever increasing number of skyscrapers and malls. They've been also building a lot of new hotels, a lot of new entertainment places, etc...

Salalah-lala in the morning :)

It was one of these occasional countries i had to pass through on my way to the vessel...Oman.
The crew change was to take place in Salalah where we arrived in the afternoon and were basically leaving same day in the evening.

Walking through Doha again

Got ready to sail off to my ship on wednesday morning, but after all what happenned it would have been a miracle if i actually got on that easy...so i was delayed again till tomorrow, this time they were planning to put me on our supply boat Zakher princess and sending me straight to the Bluefin together with our chief navigator as he was delayed, this plan changed later to going on the pinging vessel Stanford services later to get to Bluefin when the sun is laready up so that we won't wait too long till they send the FRC for us.

Walking through Doha

Back to work, back to staying away from home.
This trip i flew to join my crew in Doha, Qatar...After a lot of visa/ticket problems, and coming to and from the airport, and switching airlines, and getting the ticket the night before flying (taking into consideration that the flight is at 9:30, i.e. i'm supposed to be there at 7:30!!!), i finally landed in Doha...And after the taxi came one hour late, and the hotel booking wasn't ready, i finally got a room, caught my breath and went out to see Doha.

Out and about in Cairo

I was sitting with my friends thinking where should we go when we meet next time...The answer was strange but all accepted the idea for some reason, we decided to go to the Egyptian museam although we've been there more than once.
